Many think that accountants are only "number crunchers" whose lives centre on assets, liabilities, bottom lines, ROR, CGT, FBT and EDP. They believe that all that is needed to be a success in the profession is technical competence, a thorough knowledge of accounting standards, business law, income tax and data processing.
These skills are obviously necessary, but they are not sufficient to become a successful accountant. Being an accountant requires more than solving accounting and taxation problems. It also depends upon attracting and keeping clients. Without clients, technical skills have little value.
